Missy is murdered while she and her family are on a family camping trip in the mountains.
Mack loses his faith in God, because he doesn't understand how someone with that much power could allow a tiny six year old girl to be brutally murdered, and take her away from her loving family.
After recieving a letter in his mailbox from "Papa," Mack goes alone to the place where Missy was killed. He only tells his friend, and doesn't inform his wife or kids.
At the shack, he meets God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. He finds this very hard to believe at first, but after he begins to belive it, he has a lot of anger and hate to lash out at "Papa."
The Holy Trinity tries to help Mack get rid of "The Great Sadness," that has been his constant companion since Missy's death.
My favorite character: Jesus. He is so funny, and amazingly kind. His love for Mack is incredible. My favorite part is when Jesus helps Mack to walk on water with him. I was awe inspired when Jesus talked about how it may seem like he wasn't with us at all times, but he was because if he wasn't people couldn't "walk on water." By this he was trying to show Mack that he gave him life, and living was like walking on water, people need him in order to do it. I loved how much I learned from his many talks with Mack, and he kept me laughing.
Believability:This book was based off of a true story, I think that's what makes this book so amazing. I know every word of this book is true. The author of the book is Mack's good friend. The book is a mircle. Simple as that.
I loved this book. It was amazing. Absolutley incredible. God, mystery, love, family, hope, faith. Things that make the world go round. The story is so modern, and it keeps your interest, but you learn so much over the course of reading it. Other people might enjoy the way the author uses such vivid imagery to help you feel like your right there with Mack. Also, the ideas and philosophies are enjoyable and thought provoking.
